Most radio stations broadcast in the frequency modulation (FM) range, and a few in amplitude modulation (AM). Satellite broadcasts are available for almost all of them, including the more obscure community radio stations.
Here's a handy alphabetical guide to South African radio frequencies, divided into mainstream stations and community stations.
 
 Radio Pretoria Radio Pretoria broadcasts from Tshwane through 13 transmitters in towns in Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, Mpumalanga, North West and KwaZulu-Natal. www.radiopretoria.co.za

Commercial stations

94.2 FM Jacaranda One of the largest independent commercial stations broadcasting in Gauteng, Jacaranda offers a mix of easy-listening adult contemporary music and news.

94.5 Kfm Kfm broadcasts adult contemporary music in the Western Cape and as far afield as Alexander Bay and the Northern Cape.

Good Hope 94 - 97 FM Cape Town's Good Hope FM plays contemporary music ranging from R&B, ballads and pop through to hip hop, dance, jazz and old school.

Talk Radio 702 702 Talk Radio, based in Johannesburg, offers news, sport, business and actuality programming – and lots of phone-in debate.

  • Bush Radio Bush Radio broadcasts to the Cape Flats, targeting coloured listeners aged 18 to 39, and features music, community issues, news, interviews and drama.
